Overview

Cellular Shades That Cut Energy Bills, in detail

The honeycomb structure is the whole point: each cell holds a pocket of still air against the window, and still air is one of the best insulators you can put in a room without building work.

Double and triple cells add layers of that insulation. Top-down bottom-up operation lets daylight in from the top of the window while keeping the lower half private — a detail that turns a bedroom shade into an everyday favourite.

  • Single, double and triple cells — up to 43% less heat loss
  • Cordless as standard, certified child-safe
  • Top-down bottom-up for daylight plus privacy
  • Sound absorption that softens traffic noise
  • Skylight and specialty shapes made to template

Measuring

Measuring made simple

Cellular shades are most often fitted inside the recess so the insulating air pocket sits against the glass.

Width

Narrowest point of the recess minus 5 mm.

Drop

Recess top to sill plus 15 mm so the bottom rail rests on the sill.

Depth

35 mm minimum for a single cell, 50 mm for triple.

Good to know. For skylights, we supply a paper template — tape it to the glass, mark the corners and send a photo; we cut the shade to that shape.

FAQ

Common questions

How much energy do cellular shades really save?

Independent testing shows double-cell shades reduce window heat loss by roughly a third compared with bare glazing — the exact figure depends on your window and climate.

Are they safe for children?

Cordless is our standard. There are no dangling cords anywhere on the shade, and the mechanism is certified to EN 13120.

Can they fit a skylight?

Yes, with aluminium side rails that hold the shade in place at any angle. Send a template and we cut to shape.

What is top-down bottom-up?

The shade opens from the top as well as the bottom, so you can let daylight in above eye level while the lower half stays private.

Do the pleats flatten over time?

Spun-bond polyester pleats are heat-set. With monthly use they stay crisp for years; we also supply a pleat comb for touch-ups.

Can cellular shades be motorised?

Yes — a slim battery motor fits inside the headrail and works with our remote and app.
