Overview

Wood Blinds, in detail

A wood blind earns its place by the way it handles light. Slats tilt through a full 180°, so you can bounce daylight off a ceiling in the morning and close the room down at night without touching a cord.

We buy kiln-dried basswood at 8–10% moisture content, machine the slats to a consistent thickness, then finish them in three coats. The result is a blind that stays flat, tilts without effort and keeps its colour through years of sun.

  • Slats sanded between coats — no raised grain, no snagging on cloths
  • Stainless-core ladder tapes that will not stretch in heat
  • Optional cloth tapes in 12 colours for a softer, more upholstered look
  • Cut-outs for handles, arch tops and rake angles made on the same line
  • Cordless lift available for homes with children or pets

Measuring

Measuring made simple

Wood blinds are usually fitted inside the recess so the slats sit close to the glass. Measure the recess width in three places — top, middle and bottom — and give us the smallest figure.

Width

Measure the recess at its narrowest point, then deduct 10 mm for clearance.

Drop

Measure from the top of the recess to the sill on the left, centre and right; use the longest.

Depth

You need at least 55 mm of recess depth for a 35 mm slat to tilt freely.

Good to know. Outside-recess fitting: add 60–80 mm to each side of the opening so the blind overlaps the wall and closes the light gap.

Care

Looking after your wood blind

Maintenance

  • Dust weekly with a dry microfibre cloth or a vacuum brush on low suction.
  • Wipe marks with a barely damp cloth and mild soap; dry immediately.
  • Avoid ammonia and abrasive pads — they dull the lacquer.
  • Twice a year, check the ladder tapes for tension and re-seat the bottom rail if needed.

Warranty and spares

  • 5 years on slats, headrail and tilt mechanism
  • Colour fastness tested to 500 hours of accelerated UV exposure
  • Replacement slats available for the life of the model
FAQ

Common questions

Will real wood blinds warp in a humid climate?

Solid wood moves with humidity. In coastal or tropical rooms we recommend sealing the end grain and keeping the blind at least 300 mm from a shower or hob — or choosing faux wood, which cannot warp.

How much light do they block?

With the slats closed and a 20 mm overlap on each side, wood blinds block roughly 95% of direct light. For a genuinely dark bedroom, pair them with a blackout roller behind.

Can I order a single slat as a spare?

Yes. Spare slats in any width and colour are available for the life of the model, usually shipped with your next order.

Do you match a paint colour?

Send us a RAL, NCS or Pantone reference and we will spray a sample slat for approval before production.

How wide can one blind be?

3000 mm in a single headrail. Beyond that we split the opening into two or three blinds on a shared headrail.

Is cordless available?

Yes — a spring-balanced cordless lift is available up to 1800 mm wide and is certified child-safe.
